To expand on part 1, here’s a few more handy SEO blogging tips for your business. Most of the tips in this article are from an amazing (and free) resource called, “How to Create Compelling Content That Ranks Well in Search Engines”. I highly recommend you read this resource, especially if you’re interested in Google’s Ranking Algorithm (how Google measures your website importance, as pictured above). But if you’re short on time, here are five more SEO blogging tips for your business blog:

1. Get inbound links. Lots of em
Inbound links (other websites linking to yours) are the bread and butter of SEO. (Notice the big green slice in the pie chart above.) So how do you get them? First, try linking to other sites. This will encourage them to link back to you. Next, get your social media elves working hard – Tweeting, Facebooking and Google +1ing your content to help it spread throughout the world. List your blog in online directories, comment on other industry blogs, and last but certainly not least – blog about stuff people care about. Stuff that gets people thinking or even angry will encourage more inbound links to your blog or website.

2. Content people care about.
Forget Google search for a second and think about your audience. Who is reading your blog? Who do you want to read your blog? Think like a journalist and write a blog post that your audience will surely want to read. Make a claim and back it up. Get opinionated about something in the news. Offer something for free. By writing news-worthy, share-worthy, content you’ll encourage people to link to your blog.

3. Get plugin savvy.
I’m willing to bet that your blog is already running on WordPress. This magical blogging platform is host to some very helpful and free SEO blogging plugins. A good one for beginners is called, WordPress SEO” by Yoast, a free WordPress plugin that helps you update all pages and posts with custom page titles, focus keywords, meta descriptions, and all kinds of other SEO stuff. If you’re looking for a fancy paid-service, Scribe is quite intuitive and can help drastically improve your blog’s SEO.

4. Juicy linkbait.
The largest indicator of SEO success is what other people are saying about you on the web. In other words, inbound links. (Have I mentioned these before? Lol.) So what’s a really good way to get other websites linking to you? Whip up some juicy linkbait. Linkbait is viral content with the specific aim to attract links. The idea: the more high-quality links to your website (from sites with high Google PageRank), the more likely you’ll experience higher rankings. Learn how to brainstorm and create linkbait with this extremely thorough Linkbait guide by Ed Fry. (He just link-baited us! Fancy that.)

5. Guest posting.
Inviting a guest writer to your blog can be great for both parties involved. You’ll both likely see a jump in traffic, and you’ll certainly trade inbound links. The effect these links have on your SEO depends on the Google PageRank of each site, but either way, guest posting is great for keeping the content flowing.
